Okay so this module is probably the one that I find the hardest. With this Game Design Document I have really had to think and rack my brain for the content of this game.
This document was so scary to look at and there is definitely a look of work that needs to n=be done on it still, ill have to come back to it over the next couple of days.
The GDD made me really think about how the story of the game is going to work, the characters, the music and the theme of the game.
With the game being RPG based, there is lot that can be done.
The main theme of the game is based around the aesthetic of Halloween. I would have liked the game to have a slightly softer spooky look to it but with the aesthetics of unity and my very, very limited knowledge of games, let alone game design, we'll have to work with what we've got.
Here is a link to the GDD which will be edited over time
I really hope that I can do this idea justice, but it really will need more work, a lot more.

Hello Alex
ReplyDeleteThis game design document was put together well. I like the idea for this game. I like the idea of the game being an RPG. The idea for the game is very imaginative and unique. There’s a lot you can make with this game.
I am confused on what the gameplay will be like for the game. I’m confused what you will do in this game to complete the tasks given to you by the npc’s. I’m also confused on is the game level based or is it just an open world game.
I would suggest adding some interesting tasks by the npc’s like trying to make puzzles for the player to figure out. How will the game become chaotic and will it make the game harder? Will the game be like a horror game going through the tunnels in the dark? Overall I like this idea

Hi Alex,
ReplyDeleteI loved reading your blog I found it very well written and easy to follow. I like the idea of your game and how you want it to be like Halloween themed which is really cool. Your GDD is very well written and I enjoyed learning about the story behind your game! I'm actually really looking forward to seeing the final product as I love game that have a spooky effect to them, it makes the game more exciting I think! :)
I am really looking forward to checking back in and seeing your process and good luck with it!

Hi Alex,
ReplyDeleteI really like the vision for your game! I'm a sucker for RPG games, and I love how you have a specific aesthetic feel and plot in mind for the game, I think that having that as a foundation for your game will benefit you a lot in its development.
One question I have for you- what exactly will the gameplay be like? Your GDD says that the player must interact with the people in the village and complete tasks in order to advance and to eventually defeat the final boss, but what exactly will the player be doing to complete the tasks? Is it a manner of gathering items, talking to other characters, or other things? I think it would be good to define your gameplay and give an example of a task in your GDD.
A suggestion I would make is to try and think of ways to simplify your game mechanics or cut down on some elements such as receiving and completing tasks. While your game in theory sounds very fun, as people with little to no game development experience implementing these features will prove difficult unless you have an abundance of tutorials and time on your hands. Perhaps you could come up with a 2 or 3 set task types for the player to complete, and change them up a little bit per villager to save you having to implement many different task types and mechanics.
I'm looking forward to seeing how your game develops!

Hi Alex
ReplyDeleteI just read your blog and found it very easy to follow and well written. I love that your game is based around Halloween as it is my favorite holiday throughout year. I also love the imagery you added for your picture and I cant wait to see what type of music you implement for your game as I can see it having real nightmare before Christmas Halloween town vibes.
I am looking forward to seeing how it turns out overall. Best of luck.
